Höganäs Coal Mining
Company founded.
First production of
refractory brick at Höganäs.
1,050 acres of land acquired
in the Bjuv district of Skåne.
Prospecting starts for coal and
chamotte clay in Bjuv area.
Start of Höganäs mining operations
at Bjuv, Sweden.
First brick production unit
inaugurated at Bjuv. First year’s
production: 829,000 bricks.
J.H.Bjørklund AS founded by Johan
Herman Bjørklund, Oslo, as a tool and
equipment maker for cartwrights and
blacksmiths, as well as a foundry crucible
manufacturer for the Morgan Group.
Gunnar Knudsen founds Borgestad Fabrikker in Skien, Norway, initially to manufacture brick for the domestic market and saggars for porcelain manufacture. Subsequently, business focuses more and more on serving Norway’s industry with high-quality refractories.

First production of chamotte brick
at Borgestad. Borgestad Fabrikker
issues its first product catalogue.
Greve Strömfeldt mine opened
at Bjuf. Now known as Mine III.
Kropps AB and Vallåkra Coal AB
become Billesholms-Bjuf AB.
Höganäs Bjuf’s brick factory modernized,
including a new chamber kiln (factory 2)
in what is today our repair workshop.
Höganäs Coal Works and Billesholms-
Bjuf AB become Höganäs-Billesholm AB.
Höganäs AB shares listed on the
Stockholm Stock Exchange.
Aktieselskabet Borgestad is founded,
with a share capital of NOK 930,000.
Prime Minister Gunnar Knudsen is
elected sole board member and
Managing Director. Knudsen owns
34% of the company’s shares.
Aktieselskapet Borgestads shares
are listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Höganäs Bjuf factory additions
completed (factory 3), including
a new chamber kiln.
New factory completed at Höganäs
Bjuf, with the first tunnel kiln.
First dry-pressed brick produced
at Höganäs Bjuf.
Already 70 years ago the advice was
to pay a little premium to be assured
of products of good quality. From

of eight vessels during WW II.
Major renovations and additions
at Höganäs Bjuf. Construction of new
offices, staff cafeteria, kitchens and
changing rooms. Two additional
tunnel kilns erected.

grinding, screening and mixing at
Höganäs Bjuf: KM79. Last mine
closed down at Höganäs Bjuf.
Höganas Bjuf AB established
as separate company.
Investments made in automatic
handling of kiln cars for tunnel
kilns at Höganäs Bjuf.
Borgestad Group acquires Höganäs
Bjuf in Sweden and GZMO,
which has 3 plants in Poland.
Restructuring of the refractory
business. Closing of three plants
in Poland and one in Norway.
Borgestad Industries
acquires JH Bjørklund.
Major investments made in industrial
robots & automated dry-pressing
equipment at Höganäs Bjuf. Borgestad
Industries acquires Grenland Industri-
muring AS and Kay Lindegaard AS,
forming GL Contracting.
Borgestad Industries publicly
listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange
under the ticker BIND.
Borgestad Industries acquired
T Knutsson AB and a majority
of the shares in Macon AB.
